Inexplicably, I had a 9 year stint in UK battle rap (all stemming from my BA dissertation). My curiosity took me overseas, had me battling legends on both sides of the pond, and becoming the innovator nobody asked for or needed.
From being the first UK rapper to battle in France, Belgium, and Germany to the first to propose to their 2 on 2 partner mid-battle, these were not necessarily important strides forward for UK Hip-Hop culture. But they were sure as hell fun to be part of.
I also ran the (now extinct) Don't Flop blog and wrote for battle rap journalism platforms in the UK, US, and Canada.
